Gorom-Gorom School Update
Written by Keith Smith

During our recent visit, we (Keith and Lynne) had the opportunity to meet the two classes of children currently at the Gorom-Gorom school, and to speak with their teachers:

Year Two
It was clear that the children are very happy - here is the second year class together with their teacher, Nicodeme, the headmaster. Of the 22 children last year, several families have moved away, leaving 15 contuing to the second year.

Year One
And here is Lynne with the new intake of 31 children in the first year class.

Their prospereteacher, Prospere (right) clearly loves the children and feels a calling to the work he is doing. It has not been easy for him to settle into Gorom-Gorom - it is a long way and a very different area to his home town - but he is very committed to the children in his care.

Progress
We were encouraged to see that the school is already drawing significant numbers of children. Also, although the school is in a very poor area, and children are not turned away if their parents cannot afford the parental contribution, most of the families are making the small but significant donation asked.

While we were there, the national leaders of the church's school committee came to visit, and were impressed with the level already attained at the school.

School Building
These first two classes are currently being held in temporary shelters on rented land, but we are in the process of building the actual school buildings, and hope that the school will be able to move in for the new school year in October. (More on the progress with the building soon...)
