Dental Equipment On Its Way!

dental_3The dental equipment Lynne bought to start a Mobile Dental Clinic in Burkina Faso will soon be on its way with the help of some friends in Belfast!

It should be in Gorom-Gorom by the end of the year, in time for us to start work in the villages. Read more below...

We are very grateful to Friends in Action, the Christian well-drilling organisation, who are sending a container of well-drilling equipment to Burkina, and offered us space for our dental equipment. (We worked with FiA in 2008 to do a well-drilling project in various villages in the north of Burkina - you can read about that HERE).

So, last week, Lynne and I loaded up the car with a dental chair, a mobile drill unit, an amalgamator, sterilisers,  and loads of frightening-looking dental tools, and drove them to Belfast. There we met with Mark Collier, one of the directors of FiA in the UK, and spent an encouraging couple of hours talking with him about our different projects. Mark and his family will be moving to Burkina themselves later this year, and it will be great to have them there.

The container should arrive in Burkina in October, so hopefully we will have the equipment in Gorom-Gorom before the end of the year. This will be perfect, as we hope to start visiting villages to do research on the dental needs and openings around that time. We have read a WHO report online that indicates that 20% of people in Oudalan are in need of dental treatment. In a population of about 200,000, that is a lot of people. We will of course only touch a fraction of that need, but hope to train local nurses to do basic dental treatment as well. For more information, see the Dental Clinic page.

We also have been blessed with a significant financial gift towards the running of the dental project for three years, which will enable us to make a good start on getting it underway.

Do thank God with us for all this progress. Thank you.
