Building the school is in some ways the easy bit. Because we aim to help the poorest of the poor, their parents are not able to contribute enough to cover teachers' salaries and the running costs of the school.

We want to be able to provide them with a quality education, and are looking for people to join with us.

Sponsor a Class: Under £150/month to educate a whole class of children.

For the first few years, we would like to find some support for the school, until it can get established. Rather than child sponsorship, we are looking at class sponsorship. We would like to find 6 churches who would each be willing to sponsor a class of children through its 6 years of school. This would give the school time to get established and potentially develop other means of support.

We plan to take in one class of up to 40 children each year for the first 6 years, until we have a full school of 6 classes with up to 240 children. The first four classes are already being sponsored, and so we need 2 more churches over the next 2 years - starting next October (2012).


Cost

We are looking for a contribution of £1,750 (currently $2,800 or €2,200) per year towards the cost of supporting a class of 40 children (teacher salary, food, administration). That works out at under £150 per month per class, or under €5 per child per month. What a worthwhile investment!

This sponsorship only covers the basics of salaries, a meal a day, and some basic equipment. So, on top of that, we are starting a "Wakkil Alla Development Fund" to help extend the impact of the church with, for example, help for needy families of the students; holiday camps; further training for the teachers. You can add £250/year ( €305 or $390 to your sponsorship to help develop the school to really be "the best for the least".
